Ice Box slight Belmont favorite over First Dude

Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up ICE BOX (Pulpit) drew post 6 and has been installed as the 3-1 favorite on the morning line for Saturday's $1 million Belmont S. (G1). The Nick Zito-trained colt will start one spot outside of stablemate FLY DOWN (Mineshaft), the 9-2 early third choice. Jose Lezcano retains the mount on Ice Box, and John Velazquez picks up the call on Dwyer S. (G2) winner Fly Down

FIRST DUDE (Stephen Got Even) will make the short run into the first turn of the 1 1/2-mile classic from post 11, the same starting spot from which he finished second in the Preakness S. (G1). A massively-built, Dale Romans-trained colt, First Dude figures to be on or very close to the lead beneath jockey Ramon Dominguez and is the 7-2 second choice.

The rest of the 12-horse field is listed at double-digit odds on the morning line. Kentucky Derby fourth-placer MAKE MUSIC FOR ME (Bernstein), whose trainer Alexis Barba is attempting to become the first female to condition a Triple Crown race winner, is among a trio at 10-1 and will keep Joel Rosario in the saddle. A pair of Triple Crown newcomers, Lone Star Derby (G3) victor GAME ON DUDE (Awesome Again) and Lexington S. (G2) third-placer UPTOWNCHARLYBROWN (Limehouse), are also tabbed at 10-1 and will have the services of Martin Garcia and Rajiv Maragh, respectively.

Dwyer runner-up DROSSELMEYER (Distorted Humor) and multiple Grade 3 winner INTERACTIF (Broken Vow) come next at 12-1, and Blue Grass (G1) upsetter STATELY VICTOR (Ghostzapper), who will look to rebound from an eighth in the Kentucky Derby, is posted at 15-1. Grade 2 runner-up DAVE IN DIXIE (Dixie Union) and recent allowance winner STAY PUT (Broken Vow) are both 20-1, and Withers S. (G3) third-placer SPANGLED STAR (Distorted Humor) rounds out the field at 30-1.
