PINK STAR, restrained in the early stages, trailed far back for the first three-quarters, moved up gradually until straightened out for the stretch run, where he came with a rush, wore the leaders down and won going away. ZAL showed the most early speed and hung on well for the first mile. OVELANDO was a forward and game contender for a mile. RED GAUNTLET was under a hard drive, but was not good enough. WOOL SANDALS retired after a mile. ORLANDWICK had no mishap. Scratched - Arcite, Boxara.

Early 1900's

At the turn of the century, financial problems plagued the racetrack. On October 1, 1902 a group headed by former Louisville Mayor Charles Grainger, Charlie Price and Matt J. Winn agreed to takeover the operation. The takeover was done by amending the track's articles of incorporation with no transfer in the form of a deed. Grainger was named president, Price racing secretary and Winn vice president.
