Start good. Won driving; second and third same. DONAU went into the lead soon after the start, was restrained in front for a mile and when called on, drew away but tired, and just lasted. JOE MORRIS tried to run out on the first turn, moved up with a rush on the stretch turn, tired, only to come again near the end. FIGHTING BOB stood the final drive gamely. BOOLA BOOLA closed a big gap and was going fastest at the end. The others never were serious contenders. Scratched - Eye White.
1900-1924
Early 1900's
At the turn of the century, financial problems plagued the racetrack. On October 1, 1902 a group headed by former Louisville Mayor Charles Grainger, Charlie Price and Matt J. Winn agreed to takeover the operation. The takeover was done by amending the track's articles of incorporation with no transfer in the form of a deed. Grainger was named president, Price racing secretary and Winn vice president.
