As a daughter of champion sprinter Smoke Glacken out of a daughter of sprint stalwart Meafara, Cor Cor’s future appears to be running at distances below a mile, something she’s excelled at thus far being unbeaten in two starts before running second in the Grade 3 Old Hat on New Year’s Day, all at six furlongs.
However, some of Smoke Glacken’s top runners have competed successfully going a distance of ground, such as Persistently, who captured the Grade 1 Personal Ensign at 1 ¼ miles, and Smok’n Frolic, winner of the Grade 2 Cotillion Handicap going 1 1/16 miles.
Smok’n Frolic also recorded back-to-back victories in the Grade 3 Next Move Handicap during her time on track, a race carded at nine furlongs.
Smoke Glacken is also responsible for last year’s Kentucky Oaks fifth-placer, On Fire Baby, who took the 1 1/16-mile, Grade 2 Golden Rod at Churchill Downs by 6 ¼ lengths.
Cor Cor’s dam, the Capote mare Babe’s Flair, was never able to factor in 11 starts, but her second dam captured six stakes and just missed by a neck in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint against the boys two years in a row.
Meafara would go on in the breeding shed to produce the dam of Canadian champion and sprinter Madman Diaries, but farther back this female family also includes French and English champion Blushing Groom.
