Fox Hill Farms (Rick Porter)
Owner
Porter became interested in racing after attending races at Delaware Park as a youth. He named his racing stable Fox Hill Farms after a home he purchased in Delaware in 1989. Fox Hill Farms has had two second place finishers in the Kentucky Derby with Hard Spun and Eight Belles in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Hard Spun would also finish second in the Preakness Stakes and the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Pedigree
Smitten is by Grade 1-winning leading stallion Tapit, who only raced six times but has sired champions Stardom Bound and Hansen.
Tapit’s offspring run the gamut from dirt runners to turf, sprint to routes, and includes Grade 1 queens Tapitsfly, Careless Jewel and Zazu, the latter of whom finished third in the 2011 Kentucky Oaks; Tapizar, winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile; and current Kentucky Derby hopeful He’s Had Enough.
Smitten is the first stakes-caliber foal produced by the winning Silver Deputy mare Hi Lili and counts as her second dam Grade 2 victress Snit.
Snit also produced Grade 3 winner Blind Date and stakes vixen Sales Tax, and this is the same female line as dual classic-winning Horse of the Year Nashua, who finished second in the 1955 Kentucky Derby.
