Coteau Grove Farms LLC
Coteau Grove Farms was established in 2008 by Keith and Ginger Myers. It sits on 180 acres in Sunset Louisiana and is a breeding and training farm for top quality stock to race in Louisiana and nationally. The Myers have a strong love of horses and have raced Little Ms Protocol, champion two year old filly in Louisiana, Harlie's Dreams and Bella Medaglia as well as the recently aquired Tough Magic . Keith is Chairman and CEO of LHC Group, Inc.
Touch Magic is by top 10 leading stallion Lion Heart, who earned more than $1.3 million on track while racking up wins in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational and Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity.
The chestnut, who was runner-up to the popular Smarty Jones in the 2004 Kentucky Derby, finished worse than third just twice in his career, recording a fourth in the Preakness Stakes and a last-of-seven in the Grade 1 Travers.
Lion Heart was discovered to have suffered a fractured foot in the Travers and was subsequently retired to stud duty, where he has sired the likes of Breeders’ Cup Turf hero Dangerous Midge and Grade 1 victor Line of David.
Touch Magic is out of the Deputy Minister mare Unifier and counts as her third dam the Affirmed mare La Affirmed.
La Affirmed is noted for producing multiple Group 3-scoring sire Bernstein, Grade 2 winner Della Francesca and Grade 3 heroines Caress and Country Cat. Caress would go on in the breeding shed to foal Grade 1-winning sire Sky Mesa.
La Affirmed is a half-sister to 1984 champion two-year-old filly Outstandingly, who ran second to the next year’s Kentucky Oaks winner Fran’s Valentine in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies before being elevated to first via that one’s disqualification.
