There are seven races left in the 2017 Road to the Kentucky Derby, the series of 37 races from September through April that decides which horses will run in the 143rd Derby. The top four winners in each Road to the Kentucky Derby race are awarded points. At the end of the series, the 20 horses with the most points earn a spot in Derby's starting gate.
Of the seven races left, six offer major points.The winner will receive 100 points while the runner up gets 40 and 3rd and 4th place receive 20 and 10 respectively. So as these races are complete the Kentucky Derby contenders will emerge and you can follow all of it on kentuckyderby.com's prep races page.
If you tune in and follow the Louisiana and Florida Derbys this weekend, the Wood Memorial, Santa Anita Derby and Bluegrass the following weekend and the final races - the Arkansas Derby and Lexington on April 15, you'll have a good idea of who your horse will be on the first Saturday in May.
