Already familiar to racegoers in his own country, Japanese owner Tomoya Ozasa’s T O prefix is set to make its mark in the Kentucky Derby in 2024 via T O Password.

Ozasa, whose previous leading racehorses include the Grade 1 winner T O Keynes, earned a spot in the starting gates when T O Password won the Fukuryu Stakes, the final race in the Japanese Road to the Kentucky Derby series and the most valuable in terms of qualifying points.

Trained by Daisuke Takayanagi, T O Password is from the third crop of the outstanding Japanese dirt performer Copano Rickey, whose sire Gold Allure is a son of Japan’s breed-shaping sire, the 1989 Kentucky Derby winner Sunday Silence. T O Password’s dam T O Rachel is a daughter of the outstanding Japanese racehorse and sire King Kamehameha, and is from the family of stakes winners Groovy Feeling, Etude, and The Savage.

T O Password’s pedigree is full of top North American dirt runners, including Timber Country, Favorite Trick, and Alydar, and can probably stay 1 1/4 miles. But with just two starts prior to the Derby, his inexperience could work against him.
