The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby (G1) is taking place this Saturday at Churchill Downs. A total of 22 talented three-year-old Thoroughbreds entered the historic 1 1/4-mile race, with two on the also-eligible list.

A full field of three-year-old fillies will race 1 1/8 miles in the 150th running of the Kentucky Oaks (G1) on Friday at Churchill Downs.

Every jockey dreams of having a mount in the Kentucky Derby (G1), and many of the nation’s top riders have yet to earn a win in the iconic contest.

The Kentucky Derby was fortunate to have Aristides as its first winner in 1875; his name summed up his character, and foreshadowed the nature of the Kentucky Derby itself.
