Overview

Albaugh Family Stables, which went close to winning the Kentucky Derby last year with third-place finisher Angel of Empire, is back on the trail again in 2024 with Catching Freedom.

Bred by WinStar Farm, Catching Freedom was a $575,000 purchase for Albaugh Family Stables at the Keeneland September Yearling sale. He is prepared by 2021 Derby-winning trainer Brad Cox.

Catching Freedom is by Constitution, a dual Grade 1 winner who has made a very good fist as a stallion in North and South America with horses such as Tiz the Law, Americanrevolution, and Chilean champion Y Nada Mas. His dam Catch My Drift, by American Pharoah’s sire Pioneerof the Nile, was a stakes winner and placed at Grade 1 level in the Beldame Stakes.

Constitution has already proved his ability to sire horses capable of getting 1 1/4 miles and further, and if he fails in the Kentucky Derby it probably won’t be due to lack of stamina.
