Brad Cox’s team for the 2024 Kentucky Derby could potentially involve Just a Touch, a well-related colt with international connections.

Bred by the Don Alberto Corporation – breeder of champion 2023 three-year-old colt Arcangelo – Just a Touch went through the sale ring three times, eventually being sold for $300,000 at the OBS April two-year-old sale. He is owned by Qatar Racing and Marc Detampel – a pair who raced Breeders’ Cup-winning sprinter Caravel – along with Resolute Racing.

Just a Touch is by the 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, who has made a fantastic start to his career as a sire, producing numerous stakes winners in both hemispheres, on dirt and turf. His dam Touching Beauty, by Tapit, was a Grade 3 winner of the one-mile Comely Stakes at Aqueduct.

Justify is as yet unproven as a sire of top-class horses at 1 1/4 miles on dirt but he stayed 1 1/2 miles himself and given that Just a Touch is out of a mare by Tapit, his prospects of staying the Kentucky Derby trip seem reasonable.
