Cupid ruled out of Kentucky Derby

Rebel S. (G2) winner Cupid, a disappointing 10th in Saturday’s Arkansas Derby (G1), will not advance to the May 7 Kentucky Derby (G1). Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert broke the news to Jay Privman of Daily Racing Form on Monday.

Baffert, who celebrated his fourth career Kentucky Derby victory with eventual Triple Crown winner American Pharoah last year, will still be represented in Derby 142 by Mor Spirit.

Cupid’s withdrawal now permits Mo Tom to make it into the Kentucky Derby field, as he moves into the 20th spot on the points list.

The complete story on Cupid, and an analysis of what his absence means for the Derby picture, is available on the TwinSpires.com blog
