A pair of Kentucky Oaks (G1) qualifiers at opposite ends of the country on Saturday yielded eye-catching winners.

The Oak Leaf (G2) at Santa Anita and the Frizette (G1) at Belmont Park each awarded 21 Road to the Kentucky Oaks qualifying points split 10-5-3-2-1 among the top five finishers.

Oak Leaf (G2)

Domain Expansion earned an automatic entry into the Oct. 30 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Keeneland when posting a resounding victory in the 1 1/16-mile Oak Leaf.

Entering off a runner-up finish in her debut on grass, Domain Expansion relished switching to dirt for the Oak Leaf. After tracking fractions of :23.05 and :47.11 in second place, the Leonard Powell trainee dropped back to fourth place around the far turn, waiting for racing room behind rivals. Once jockey Adrian Escobedo steered her outside, Domain Expansion blew past the leaders and powered away to win by seven lengths in 1:44.44.

Holmby finished second by a clear margin over favored Quattro Passi, followed by Free Closer, Deluge, and Janie Not Jeanie.

California Racing Partners, Ciaglia Racing, Allen R. Keith, and Kevin O’Donnell own Domain Expansion in partnership. The daughter of Speaker’s Corner was bred by Machmer Hall, Carrie Brogden, and Craig Brogden.

Frizette (G1)

Dotsy, a decisive maiden winner in her debut at Saratoga, upset heavy favorite Libby Lloyd and others to win Saturday’s one-mile Frizette by a clear margin.

Fast fractions of :22.98 and :45.75 set by longshot Girls Wear Pearls tired out Libby Lloyd, who spent much of the race dueling for the lead. But Dotsy, who was never more than half a length off the pace in third place, had plenty left for the drive. She passed Libby Lloyd in the final quarter-mile and gradually edged away to win by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:36.07.

Rum Twist closed from fourth place to finish second over late-running Revenge of the Sis, while Libby Lloyd tired to cross the wire fourth. Velora, Girls Wear Pearls, and She’s a Twelve trailed the field.
