Expert Pick of the Week: 2025 Chilukki Stakes

Nov 12, 2025 John Mucciolo/TwinSpires.com

A total of seven fillies and mares will travel one mile over the Churchill Downs dirt course in Saturday’s $300,000 Chilukki S. (G3). This race is very competitive on paper with numerous accomplished ladies in the group, and I will give the narrow edge to recent allowance winner One Magic Philly for trainer Brendan Walsh.

The four-year-old daughter of Good Magic was based in California for the majority of her career and posted some good results, led by a Grade 3 win in 2024. She was fast enough to finish just 2 3/4 lengths short in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) in that same season, but the filly was winless in her four races following that effort, however.

One Magic Philly was moved to trainer Brendan Walsh prior to her last start, where she drove home to be a sharp allowance winner at Keeneland Race Course in her first race for the conditioner. The Kentucky-bred registered a healthy 98 Brisnet Speed rating in that sprint, which is the top last-out number in the field, and she now moves out to a one-turn mile, which I feel that she will love. The bay filly will be close every step of the way with the excellent Tyler Gaffalione riding.

Brian Lynch’s Shred the Gnar is a neck short of being undefeated from her three career offerings to date. By the sensational Into Mischief, the three-year-old was a $610,000 yearling purchase at auction and looks well worth the investment so far. She dominated in her second start at Gulfstream Park by 6 1/2 lengths, before crushing allowance runners by seven lengths on this surface on May 2. The expensive filly will face off with older counterparts for the initial time, but she might find herself alone on the front early on with the aggressive Luis Saez riding.

Ragtime was a powerful winner of the Dogwood S. (G3) here two races back for trainer Bill Mott. The chestnut daughter of Union Rags has never run a bad race in her five career runs and will have blinkers back on for this affair. Also a three-year-old, the filly really flies home and will be one to watch in the stretch in the contest. Junior Alvarado has been the only jockey to ride her and will be in the saddle once again.

Expert Pick

An exacta with #6 One Magic Philly on top of #2 Shred the Gnar and #7 Ragtime in the Chilukki Stakes is the Best Bet of the Week.
