Expert Pick of the Week: Rainbow Stakes

Apr 16, 2020 John Mucciolo/TwinSpires.com

A field of 10 Arkansas-breds will vie in Friday’s $100,000 Rainbow S. at Oaklawn Park. The six-furlong dash attracted a few talented 3-year-olds led by 2019 Inaugural S. romper Zaino Boyz, who looks formidable in this spot. He is the Expert Pick of the Week.

The son of Daaher is among the best gate horses in training, as he has gained the advantage at the first call in each of his seven lifetime starts. A runaway winner over allowance foes at Gulfstream Park in his most recent assignment, the sophomore is the speed and class of the Rainbow field.

Zaino Boyz will make his first appearance since being transferred to the barn of Chris Hartman, and he shows a pair of bullet morning drills in preparation of his initial try with state-bred foes. The bargain $19,000 yearling purchase also draws perfectly on the outside of the cast to avoid any traffic problems. He figures to lead throughout at a short price with Joe Talamo in the controls.
The lightly raced Man in the Can has as much upside as any other contender in the field and gets the nod to complete the exacta for conditioner Ron Moquett. A debut winner at Remington Park in the winter, the bay colt ran in spots when a decent sixth in an allowance endeavor on this surface off the layoff and figures to show marked improvement on Friday.
Man in the Can comes in off of a sharp half-mile drill most recently, and the move to pick up jockey Joel Rosario is a major positive, as well. I expect the Arkansas-bred to be forwardly placed to the top of the stretch and to outfinish all but one down the lane.

An exacta with Zaino Boyz over Man in the Can is the Best Bet of the Week.
