Gomo, Off the Tracks headline Gulfstream Park Oaks

Apr 01, 2016 Jennifer Caldwell/Brisnet.com

Alcibiades (G1) winner Gomo and undefeated Off the Tracks are the top draws in Saturday’s $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) sending a field of seven 1 1/16 miles. The race is the first on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks offering up points on a 100-40-20-10 basis to the respective top four.

Gomo returns in this spot off her 2 3/4-length victory in the Alcibiades over a sloppy, sealed track at Keeneland last October 2. The Doug O’Neill trainee placed in a pair of stakes prior to that contest, including Del Mar’s Sorrento (G2), and gets regular rider Mario Gutierrez back in the irons as she attempts to win her sophomore debut.

Off the Tracks will be making her first start for new trainer Todd Pletcher in the Gulfstream Park Oaks. The Curlin filly romped in her three races for conditioner Roderick Rodriguez, including a 3 1/4-length score in the Schuylerville (G3) at Saratoga last July and a 4 1/4-length victory when returning in the February 21 Margate H. at Gulfstream. John Velazquez will be in Off the Tracks’ saddle for the first time.

All but one of the remaining five fillies are exiting maiden wins. Go Maggie Go and Double Entendre each captured their racing debuts in easy fashion last out. The Dale Romans-trained Go Maggie Go earned a 91 BRIS Speed figure for her four-length score on March 13 at Gulfstream and keeps Luis Saez in the pilot’s seat on Saturday.

Conditioner Peter Walder has tabbed Scott Spieth to ride Double Entendre following her eight-length romp going a mile and 70 yards at Sam Houston on February 29. The American Lion filly was trained by Larry Stroope at that time.

Paola Queen and Mo’ Green took a couple of tries to secure a first win, with the former doing so on February 14 by a front-running length and the latter posting a 2 1/4-length score on February 28. Both those efforts came at Gulfstream and set the duo up for this first try against winners.

Hold on Momma broke her maiden at first asking on December 12 at Laurel Park and has since finished fourth against allowance/optional claiming rivals back at that track and Tampa Bay Downs. The bay miss will be getting first-time Lasix in this spot and Julien Leparoux holding the reins.
