Kentucky Oaks 2025: Tradition, Triumph, and a Touch of Pink

The 151st running of the Longines Kentucky Oaks was a celebration of elegance, empowerment, and world-class racing at Churchill Downs. Held on Friday, May 2, 2025, Oaks Day once again proved why it's one of the most beloved traditions of Derby Week and one of the longest-running sporting events in American history. With a $1.5 million purse and a field of elite 3-year-old fillies, the day was packed with pageantry, purpose, and powerful performances.

A Champion Rises: Good Cheer Wins the Lilies for the Fillies

In front of a vibrant crowd, Good Cheer stole the spotlight and surged to victory in the prestigious Longines Kentucky Oaks. Trained by Chad Brown and ridden confidently by Irad Ortiz Jr., Good Cheer delivered a commanding stretch run to win by 2 1/4 lengths. The win marked the filly’s fourth consecutive victory and solidified her place among racing’s elite. She completed the 1 1/8-mile journey in 1:50.15, extending her remarkable win streak and taking home the coveted Lilies for the Fillies garland.

Survivors Parade: A March of Courage and Hope

One of the most meaningful moments of the day was the 16th annual Kentucky Oaks Survivors Parade, presented in partnership with Norton Cancer Institute and Horses and Hope. The emotional procession honored 150 breast and ovarian cancer survivors and fighters, who took to the historic track in celebration of resilience, community, and hope.

This inspiring tradition underscores the heart of Oaks Day — a day not only for racing, but also for raising awareness and funds for women’s health. Attendees were encouraged to contribute to organizations that make this moment possible and continue the fight against cancer.

A Sea of Pink: Fashion with a Purpose

From wide-brimmed hats to pink heels, fans embraced the “Pink Out” tradition, dressing head-to-toe in vibrant hues to support breast and ovarian cancer awareness. The annual Kentucky Oaks Fashion Contest encouraged attendees to show off their most stylish pink ensembles for a chance to win exciting prizes — all while spotlighting Churchill Downs’ advocacy for women’s health.
