Pin Oak Stud’s horse, named Incredibolt, earned 50 qualifying points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series when exploding through the stretch to win the $506,000 Virginia Derby by four lengths at Colonial Downs on March 14. The three-year-old, who is trained by Riley Mott and was ridden by Jaime Torres, clocked 1 1/8 miles on the fast dirt surface in 1:47.76 to virtually punch his ticket to Louisville for the first Saturday in May.

The next four finishers – Grittiness, Confessional, Buetane, and Lockstocknpharoah – also picked up qualifying points on a 25-15-10-5 structure.

“It was very impressive,” stated Mott. “He sat right in the pocket behind a hot pace and was surrounded by horses most of the way. He took Jaime right up into a hole on the rail, turning for home, and then just blasted off and was pulling away at the end.”

Jockey Jaime Torres added, “He’s really matured and has a lot more confidence now. That showed today. I felt like I had plenty of horse around the half-mile, and I thought the horses in front were starting to slow down a little. I was just waiting for the right spot. This is a dream come true.”

Incredibolt was unplaced in a debut at Ellis Park on August 22 but came out victorious in his next pair of runs in 2025. The colt sired by Bolt d’Oro won a maiden race in his second showing on Sept. 28 while traveling one mile at Churchill Downs, which preceded a strong win in the Street Sense (G3) at the same track on Oct. 26. His career mark now reads 5-3-0-0, $498,681.

The winning horse was bred in Kentucky and purchased for $75,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He was produced from the winning Awesome Again mare Sapphire Spitfire and is a half-brother to the dual graded stakes-placed Fire on Time.

Incredibolt earned a lifetime-best 100 Brisnet Speed rating in his Virginia Derby score, which included a massive 115 Late Pace rating, as well. He will train up to the Kentucky Derby, according to his connections.
