Kentucky Derby Horse Profile: Right to Party

Chester Broman, Sr.’s three-year-old colt named Right to Party has picked up 65 points on the 2026 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series this season and sits in 12th place on the current leaderboard to punch his ticket to the Run for the Roses.

The chestnut horse has finished in the money in each of his four career starts for trainer Kenny McPeek, who saddled Mystic Dan to Kentucky Derby (G1) glory in 2024. He was unveiled at Aqueduct on Dec. 13th in a six-furlong maiden special weight dash on the main oval and rallied late to be third in a swiftly run contest. In his second appearance on Jan. 10 on the same surface, the horse was stretched out to the one-mile distance and graduated with a nice run in the closing stages of the race. He earned qualifying points in each of his past two outings, with a third-place result in the Gotham (G3) preceding the runner-up performance in the Wood Memorial (G2) on April 4.

Right to Party was bred in Kentucky and purchased for $325,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The son of strong sire Constitution is the first stakes winner out of the Emcee mare Havin’ A Party, and he hails from the same female family as Canadian Horse of the Year Wonder Gadot, as well as Grade-1 heroines Hard Not to Love and Secret Spice.

The Derby starter will need a lifetime best showing in Louisville to be considered a major threat, as he comes in with modest Brisnet Speed ratings of 84-82-86-90 from his four assignments to this stage of his development. He does have a steady closing kick, however, and the move to 1 1/4 miles at Churchill Downs could be to his benefit, as well. Christopher Elliot, his regular jockey, will be in the saddle in the Kentucky Derby.
