Wagering on Valentin Bukhtoyarov and Evgeny Kappushev’s unbeaten Polar River has been suspended in Churchill Downs Racetrack’s upcoming Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (“KOFW”) after a representative of trainer Doug Watson confirmed to track officials that the Dubai-based filly would not travel to the United States to compete in America’s top race for 3-year-old fillies on Friday, May 6.
The defection of Polar River (#16), a daughter of Congrats whose four career wins at Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse include the UAE Oaks Sponsored by Emirates (GIII) and the UAE 1000 Guineas, leaves the three-day Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool with 23 wagering interests that features 22 individual 3-year-old fillies and the Mutuel Field (#24), or “All Others,” interest that includes all other 3-year-old fillies.
Betting in the three-day Kentucky Oaks Future pool is scheduled to begin Friday, March 11 at noon (all times Eastern) and conclude on Sunday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. – 30 minutes after the close of the companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager allows fans to wager weeks in advance on contenders for the $1 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI), America’s top race for 3-year-old fillies, at odds that could be more attractive than those available on the day of the race on Friday, May 6 at Churchill Downs.
The KOFW features $2 minimum win bets and $2 exacta wagers, which are also available in $1 minimum increments in boxes and other multiple number configurations. No scratches or betting refunds are permitted in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.
Betting on any individual betting interest during the pool will be suspended immediately should Churchill Downs determine that injury, illness or some other circumstance would prevent that filly from competing in the Kentucky Oaks.
