Brunetti Dugan Stables, Black Type Thoroughbreds, Steve Adkisson, and Swinbank Stables recently moved to acquire Dubai-based Six Speed in hopes that he could advance on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

At Meydan on Friday, Six Speed rewarded his new U.S. owners’ faith and furnished a quick dividend on their investment with a tour de force performance in the UAE 2000 Guineas (G3). Six Speed banked 20 points on the Euro/Mideast leaderboard, with the promise of more to come from the well-bred son of Not This Time.

Trained by Bhupat Seemar and piloted by Mickael Barzalona, Six Speed lived up to his name by showing plenty of early pace. The dark bay broke alertly and found himself in front in the initial strides, until Uruguayan-bred Namaguederaz advanced on the inside to join him. But Namaguederaz could not maintain his position, and his challenge proved short-lived.

Six Speed readily regained the advantage as the field prepared to enter the far turn. The only danger at that stage was stablemate Lino Padrino, who was stalking on the outside.

Lino Padrino, a New Jersey-bred, is highly regarded himself. Indeed, Seemar’s go-to rider, Tadhg O’Shea, chose him over Six Speed, perhaps because of their question mark over whether Six Speed would stay the metric mile effectively.

Six Speed answered that question in resounding style. Traveling better than Lino Padrino at the top of the stretch, he rebuffed his stablemate and opened up by five lengths. Six Speed clocked 1:38.02 and returned $5.20 as the favorite in the U.S. betting.

Godolphin’s Devon Island, the favorite in the international market and second choice in the U.S., closed belatedly to take second. The Charlie Appleby trainee picked up 10 points on the Euro/Mideast Road.

Union Security checked in another neck away in third (six points). Lino Padrino tired to fourth (four points), but considering that he broke from the far outside post 16, he can fare better from a more advantageous spot in the gate. Raajehh received two points for rounding out the top five.

Next came Al Khawaneej; Yamdeek; Brotherly Love, the half-brother to last year’s UAE Derby (G2) near-misser Heart of Honor, who put himself too far back with a tardy start; Awesome Fleet; Duke of Immatin; Yasup; Senator of State; Rammaas; Namaguederaz; Don Pelicano; and Legalaized, who was eased.

Six Speed was following up on his victory in the Jan. 2 UAE 2000 Guineas Trial, which caught the attention of the U.S. ownership group and prompted their purchase. He’s now won three straight after finishing third on debut.

Bred by KatieRich Farms in the Bluegrass State, Six Speed sold for $50,000 as a yearling at Keeneland September. He was resold as a two-year-old in training last spring at Tattersalls, where Seemar bought him for about $304,680. Six Speed originally raced for the Blue Blood Racing Syndicate of Kamlesh Mahtani and Dhruv Sahni.

Six Speed’s dam (mother), stakes-placed Browse, is also responsible for the stakes-winning Pipit. Browse is a daughter of the outstanding stallion Medaglia d’Oro and blueblood Grade 2 victress Daydreaming, by A.P. Indy.

Daydreaming is a full sister to Grade 1 hero Girolamo, from the immediate family of 2010 Kentucky Derby (G1) star Super Saver.
