Though he’s prepared luminaries such as Flightline and Accelerate in his long career, trainer John Sadler hasn’t had much success in Classics. He’s hoping he may have a candidate in 2024 with Scatify.

Bred by Douglas and Felicia Branham, Scatify was a $120,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May Two-Year-Old sale last year. He’s raced by West Point Thoroughbreds, who were among the owners of Flightline.

Scatify is by the Triple Crown winner Justify, who has made a hot start to his career with quality runners on dirt and turf, among them Arabian Lion and Just F Y I. He is out of the Prospective mare Broadway Run, a stakes winner over 5 1/2 furlongs on the Saratoga turf; the family traces back to Alabama Stakes (G1) winner Pretty Discreet, dam of Discreet Cat and Discreetly Mine.

Though he’s as  yet unproven as a sire of horses that can stay 1 1/4 miles, Justify stayed 1 1/2 miles himself and has reasonable prospects of getting a Kentucky Derby horse. Whether his speedy dam can transmit enough stamina for the Derby is more up for debate.
