Who Is Search Party?

Search Party's case for handling today's distance rests more on family history than anything she's proven on the track. Her father won one of the most prestigious long-distance races in America, and that kind of staying power can be inherited. But Search Party herself has never run as far as the Kentucky Oaks requires, and her best results have come at a slightly shorter distance. She'll be asked to step up in both distance and quality of competition at the same time. Her best prep finish came in a race that didn't include some of her top rivals, which puts that result in perspective. The distance probably won't be what holds her back on Friday. The caliber of the competition is the more pressing concern. A long shot with distance questions that are open rather than disqualifying.

Her Family Tree

Search Party has an impressive pedigree. Her dad is Gun Runner, one of the greatest racehorses ever, who earned $15.9 million and won many important races at top tracks. Her mom is Devious Charm, who descended from Into Mischief, a Grade 1 champion. Having a famous racing superstar as a father gives Search Party excellent genetics for running fast.

What Has She Done So Far?

Search Party has raced eight times. She won her maiden race on Dec. 27, 2025 (1-1/16 miles) at 9-5 odds after finishing third twice earlier. Recently, she won a stakes race at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 6, 2026 (1-1/16 miles) by just a nose (extremely close finish!) at 4-1 odds. However, her most recent race on March 27, 2026 was a tough loss—she finished 2nd by 5 1/2 lengths in another Oaklawn Park stakes at 1-1/16 miles.

What Matters: Why Root for Search Party

Search Party comes from one of the greatest racehorses ever. She has a championship trainer guiding her development. She just won a stakes race, proving she can compete at higher levels. She's continuing to improve and learn.

Caution: What Could Stop Her

Search Party only has eight races total—still inexperienced. She hasn't raced beyond 1-1/16 miles, so we don't know if she can handle longer distances. Her recent loss was significant, showing she can be beaten. She needs more consistent winning to prove she's truly a top contender.
