Pennsylvania trainer Robert Reid is hoping to have his first Kentucky Derby runner in 2024 in the form of Uncle Heavy.

Reid, a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner with Vequist in 2020, prepares the colt bred by his sister-in-law Barbara Reid for Michael Milam.

Uncle Heavy is the first graded stakes winner by 2014 Preakness (G1) third-place finisher Social Inclusion (Pioneerof the Nile), whose best progeny prior to Uncle Heavy were the sprinters Gordian Knot and Flor de Sombra. His dam Expect Wonderful is a winning daughter of Tiz Wonderful.

With names like Pioneerof The Nile, Saint Ballardo, Tiznow, and Harlan’s Holiday close in his pedigree, Uncle Heavy has reasonable prospects of stretching his stamina to 1 1/4 miles.
