Overview

Owner Harry L. Veruchi is hoping the bargain price he paid for West Saratoga can take him all the way to the Kentucky Derby.

Veruchi paid just $11,000 for the Two Hearts Farm II LLC-bred West Saratoga at the Keeneland September yearling sale in 2022. He is trained by Larry Demeritte and his earnings already well exceed his purchase price.

West Saratoga is by the 2016 Preakness (G1) winner and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Exaggerator, whose best runner to date is the 2022 Belmont (G1) third-place finisher Skippylongstocking. He is out of the unraced Uncle Mo mare Mo Wicked, who comes from the family of Alcibiades (G1) winner Wickedly Perfect.

Exaggerator and Uncle Mo have both shown the ability to get horses to excel running at least 1 1/8 miles, suggesting West Saratoga could have enough stamina for the Derby should he get there.
