Meet Zany: A Champion Filly in the Making

Zany has the strongest distance credentials of any horse in the field. In December, she won a prestigious race at exactly today's distance, drawing away from quality rivals in convincing fashion. When you ask which horse has already proven she can run a mile and an eighth, Zany raises her hand first. As a daughter of American Pharoah, the only horse to win racing's Triple Crown in the past four decades, she carries bloodlines built for big, demanding races. Her two subsequent starts haven't quite matched that dominant December form, which is a mild concern. But the distance is unquestionably her greatest asset. If the same Zany who won so impressively last winter shows up on Friday, she's the horse everyone else has to beat.

Her Family Tree

Zany's father is American Pharoah, one of the greatest racehorses ever. American Pharoah won the Triple Crown in 2015—he won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes in the same year! He earned $8.6 million and won nine of his eleven races. Her mother, Mo' Green, was also a racehorse winner. Uncle Mo, her maternal grandfather, was a Grade 1 champion. This gives Zany bloodlines from champions on both sides.

Her Racing Record

Zany has raced four times with three wins:

• Nov. 2, 2025, at Gulfstream Park (Maiden race, 6 1/2 furlongs, fast dirt): WON by 6 1/2 lengths at 2-1 odd
• Dec. 6, 2025, at Aqueduct (Stakes race, 1 1/8 miles, fast dirt):WON by 8 1/2 lengths at 3-5 odds
• Feb. 7, 2026, at Tampa Bay Downs (Stakes race, 1 mile 40 yards, fast dirt): WON by 2 3/4 lengths at 1-5 odds
• April 3, 2026, at Keeneland (Stakes race, 1 1/16 miles, fast dirt): 2nd place by 2 1/4 lengths at 3-5 odds

She's competed only on fast dirt and has impressed with dominant victories.

What Matters: Why to Root for Zany

Zany has the best bloodline possible—her father is American Pharoah, the Triple Crown champion! She's trained by Todd Pletcher, one of the greatest trainers in racing. She's won 75% of her races, which shows she's really special. She's already winning stakes races at age three.

Caution: Potential Vulnerabilities

Zany has only raced four times, so we're still learning about her. She just finished second in her most recent race, which was her first loss. She hasn't raced at different distances much. She has never raced on muddy or turf surfaces.
