Gun Runner Race History 

Named for 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner, who swept the Louisiana Derby (G2) and Risen Star (G2) at Fair Grounds before finishing third in the 2016 Kentucky Derby, the 1 1/16-mile Gun Runner S. was added to the Road to the Kentucky Derby series in 2021. Kentucky Derby runner-up and champion three-year-old Epicenter captured the first running, and the Early Prep Season event awards points on a 10-5-3-2-1 scale to the top five finishers. Fillies will compete for Kentucky Oaks points in the Untapable S. on the same program.
