Jeff Ruby Steaks Race History

One of eight major qualifiers in the Road to the Kentucky Derby series, the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) will award points on a 100-50-25-15-10 scale to the top five finishers toward a Kentucky Derby berth. It’s the lone major qualifier offered on a synthetic surface, Turfway Park’s Tapeta track, and along with multiple past sponsors, the 1 1/8-mile race has produced a pair of Kentucky Derby winners. Animal Kingdom easily captured the 2011 edition before coming back to win the first leg of the Triple Crown, and Rich Strike finished third in the 2021 Jeff Ruby before springing an 80-1 upset in the Kentucky Derby. The Bourbonette Oaks, a Road the Kentucky Oaks series qualifier, will be offered on the same card.
