The Hyacinth Stakes, the third of four races on the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby, is worth points on a scale of 30-15-9-6-3 to the top five finishers. Like the opening leg in the series, the Cattleya S., the Hyacinth is contested over a metric mile at Tokyo. But the Hyacinth has more cachet as a listed stakes race. With its spot on the calendar, typically the same day as the February S. (G1) for older horses, it can also serve as a stepping stone to March’s UAE Derby (G2) on the main leaderboard.
