Gaudreau

Gaudreau won a strong maiden race at Saratoga, a debut at 6 1/2-furlongs for a maiden special weight, where he beat Coach Pope by a half-length with U. S. S. Valor third. In the Champagne Stakes he couldn't hold off one of the horses he beat that day and both Coach Pope and U. S. S. Valor have since won by wide margins, and Gaudreau's 90 Brisnet Speed rating stood up well. In his second start, the Champagne, he finished second to a much-improved U. S. S. Valor and earned five Derby points. Trainer Chad Brown, who has won five of the last 10 Champagne Stakes asked pilot Flavien Prat to ride. The Louisiana-bred is by 2016 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist out of Free Cover and was bred by Coteau Grove Farms. He races for a partnership that includes Tanglewood Thoroughbreds and Thirty Year Racing. Two strong efforts from two starts holds promising future growth.
