Wathnan Racing’s three-year-old horse named Commandment rallied along the inside in the closing stages of the race and recorded a win by a neck in the $400,000 Fountain of Youth (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 28. Trained by Brad Cox and ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr., the colt endured 1 1/16 miles on the fast dirt strip in a solid 1:43.33. In addition to the winners’ share of the purse, the horse also earned 50 qualifying points on the 2026 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series leaderboard, which basically assures him of having a spot in the starting gate for the Run for the Roses on May 2.

Chief Wallabee was a narrow second and earned 25 qualifying points for his excellent effort. Solitude Dude accumulated 15 points for his brave third, Bravaro received 10 for his fourth-place result, while Napoleon Solo picked up 5 points for finishing fifth.

“I thought he was getting a good trip, and turning for home, Irad obviously put him in a great spot,” said Cox. “He had the inside path, finished up well, had to fight to win, and galloped out well again. Irad said he had plenty of horse after the wire. He passed the two-turn test. A mile and a sixteenth to a mile and an eighth will be next.”

Commandment made his first run at Keeneland on Oct. 4 and rallied to be fourth in a six-furlong dash at the Lexington, Ky. venue. He graduated second time out when traveling seven furlongs beneath the Twin Spires at Churchill Downs on Nov. 1. The horse preceded his Fountain of Youth score with an easy win in the Mucho Macho Man S. at Gulfstream on Jan. 3. His career mark now reads 4-3-0-0, $403,539.

The winning horse failed to meet his reserve in his first two runs through the auction ring, but he was eventually purchased for $500,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. By otherworldly sire Into Mischief, the three-year-old was produced from the Boston Harbor mare named Sippican Harbor, who captured the 2018 Spinaway (G1) at Saratoga, making her a half-sister to 2025 Sir Barton S. winner Crudo.

Commandment has registered ascending Brisnet Speed ratings of 84-86-96-103 from his four races to date. The prime Triple Crown contender could be seen next in either the $1 million Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park on March 28 or the $1.25 million Blue Grass (G1) at Keeneland on April 4, according to his trainer.
