Just as the Road to the Kentucky Derby kicks off with Saturday’s Iroquois (G3) at Churchill Downs, so does its sister race, the Pocahontas (G3), open the Road to the Kentucky Oaks for fillies.

The Road to Kentucky Derby 153 will get underway Saturday with a field of nine 2-year-olds entered in the Iroquois Stakes (Grade III) at Churchill Downs.

The 2026-27 Road to the Kentucky Derby kicks off on Saturday with the running of the $300,000 Iroquois (G3) at Churchill Downs, where the 2027 Kentucky Derby (G1) will take place roughly eight months from now.

The Iroquois is named after the first U.S.-bred winner of England’s famed Derby at Epsom in 1881.

A compact field of five two-year-old horses will speed seven panels on the dirt in Sunday’s $300,000 Del Mar Futurity (G1).
