La Crete battles back for Silverbulletday

Displaying steadfast determination in her second start, La
Crete earned her first points toward a Kentucky Oaks berth when capturing Saturday’s
$150,000 Silverbulletday S. Fair Grounds.

The dominant maiden winner was passed in upper stretch, but
La Crete fought back to retake the lead, scoring by a length under the wire. Joel
Rosario was up on the regally-bred three-year-old filly for owner/breeder
Stonestreet Stables and trainer Steve Asmussen.

A stablemate to presumptive two-year-old filly champion Echo
Zulu, La Crete looks like a serious Oaks prospect herself.

She completed a mile and 70 yards in 1:43.93, returning a $4.20
mutuel as the 11-10 favorite among six runners.

After showing the way on a short lead, La Crete came under pressure
on the far turn from Fannie and Freddie, who was exiting a head second in Dec. 26 Untapable S. at Fair Grounds. Fannie and Freddie took a short lead while
straightening for home, but La Crete still had more to offer along the inside, regaining
the advantage with about a sixteenth of a mile remaining.

Fannie and Freddie held second by 2 1/2 lengths over
Bernabreezy, and Candy Raid, Miss Chamita, and Sweet as Pie completed the
order.

The Silverbulletday awarded points on a 10-4-2-1 scale as a
Road to the Kentucky Oaks series qualifier.

By Medaglia d’Oro, La Crete is the second foal from the multiple
Grade 1-winning Bernardini mare Cavorting, an earner of more than $2 million. That
makes La Crete a half-sister to Grade 1-winning millionaire Clairiere, a
daughter of Curlin.

La Crete’s future plans remain undetermined. The Feb. 19
Rachel Alexandra S. (G2), the next Kentucky Oaks qualifier at Fair Grounds,
will be an option.
