St. Elias Stable, William Lawrence, and Glassman Racing’s three-year-old colt named Iron Honor punched his ticket to Louisville following his one-length triumph in the $300,000 Gotham (G3) at Aqueduct on Feb. 28. The Chad Brown trainee earned 50 qualifying points on the 2026 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series after running one-mile on the fast Aqueduct dirt in 1:37.94 under Manny Franco.

Others earning qualifying points towards the Derby were Crown the Buckeye (25), Right to Party (15), Exhibition Only (10), and Balboa (5), who finished second through fifth in the event.

'He has plenty of stamina,” said Brown. “I was really surprised he won first time out. I ran him to get a race into him, and I remember when I debuted him, I was wishing the race was 6 1/2 or seven [furlongs] to give him a little bit more of a chance to get there. When he won, he really got my attention because he did something he's not supposed to be doing -- winning at three-quarters. Only good horses do that. You saw him wear down a stubborn foe today, and it looked like he was interested in more distance on the gallop out, so I like seeing that.”

The winner was making just his second career run in the Gotham and improved his lifetime mark to 2-2-0-0, $211,750. In his debut run at Aqueduct, the three-year-old tracked a fast pace and wore down the front runner in a six-furlong sprint on Dec. 13 en route to a 1 1/2-length victory.

Iron Honor was bred in Kentucky by Mike and Pat Freeny and went through the sales ring on two occasions. He attracted a final bid of $230,000 at the 2024 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, prior to bringing the gavel down at $475,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in the same year. The son of Nyquist is the first stakes star out of the winning Blame mare Orencia.

The horse has earned Brisnet Speed ratings of 99 and 95 from a pair of one-turn races to date and figures to improve those numbers as the distances increase. He is expected to contest the $750,000 Wood Memorial (G2) at Aqueduct on April 4 in his next venture.
