What is the Road to the Kentucky Oaks?

The Road to the Kentucky Oaks is a series of races where the top five finishers in each race earn points. The 14 horses with the most points, who are also nominated to the Longines Kentucky Oaks, will earn a spot in the starting gate for the 152nd running of the Longines Kentucky Oaks (Grade I). This race is scheduled for Friday, May 1, 2026.

The Longines Kentucky Oaks is America’s top race for 3-year-old fillies—young female horses—and is held every year on the day before the Kentucky Derby. This race is a Grade 1 stakes event with a $1.5 million prize and awards the winner a garland of lilies, known as “lilies for the fillies.”Kentucky Oaks Day at Churchill Downs is the second most-attended horse race in the United States, behind only the Triple Crown races: the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes.
