Pedigree

  • Dean's Kitten is from the first crop of 2004 champion turf male Kitten's Joy, who was also bred and campaigned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey. Kitten's Joy won three stakes at 1 1/4 miles and beyond, including the Turf Classic Invitational (G1), Secretariat S. (G1) and Virginia Derby (G3).
  • Dean's Kitten is the first graded stakes winner for his sire, who has also been represented in this crop by Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) runner-up William's Kitten and the turf stakes winners Kera's Kitten and Lisa's Kitten.
  • His dam is by Ide, who reeled off five straight stakes wins including the Kentucky Jockey Club (G3) and Iroquois S. (G3) at Churchill at two and the Rebel S. and Southwest S. (G3) at three. Injury forced his retirement prior to the 1996 Kentucky Derby. Dean's Kitten is the first stakes winner produced from a daughter of Ide, whose best previous three-year-old performer was Percy Hope, who took the Lone Star Derby and Rushaway S. in 2001.
  • Dean's Kitten's third dam was the nine-furlong Spinster S. (G1) winner Safe, the ancestress of Brazilian Group 1 winner Links of Glory.
  • While 1 1/4 miles doesn't figure to cause Dean's Kitten many problems, the fact his greatest success has come on turf and synthetic rather than dirt suggests he might struggle to stay competitive over Churchill's main oval.
