The Louisiana-born Albarado has built an immensely successful career, which is remarkable given that he suffered severe head injuries before the turn of the century. A titanium plate is inserted in to his skull as a result. Head trauma also limited his availability through the last quarter of 2000 and the majority of 2001.
He received the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 2004 and received induction into the Fair Grounds Racing Hall of Fame in 2005. He has won more than 4,600 races in his career with his most famous mounts being Horses of the Year Mineshaft (2003) and Curlin (2007-2008).
